About this Course

This course focuses on basic English grammar skills for beginning English learners. Topics covered include articles, present progressive, and possessive forms.

Learning modules

  • Week 1
    • Review Weekly Goal: NonCount and Count nouns; Begin Present Progressive Verb Tense

    • Looking at grammar small groups Ex.4 p. 194 List noncount nouns and find count nouns close in meaning

    • Warmup, copy draw 2 squares and categorize the nouns as count or non-count: Class Gallery strategy

    • Homework check, Count/noncount nouns through page 101

    • Study Guide Parts A and B Identify and produce count and non-count nouns and produce appropriate articles; Produce measurement words within simple sentences (some, a little, much, many, and a lot of).

    • Introduction and class practice/speaking with present progressive verbs

  • Week 2
    • Create 10 sentences using Present Progressive (continuous) Verb Tense for you and/or your family.

    • Review Homework sentences; Page 98 and 99 Azar (in Present Progressive)

    • Study Guide Parts C and D Produce sentences and respond to questions with present progressive verbs.

    • Difference between present and present progressive (Arnel video attached)

  • Week 3
    • Partner Practice (Conducting Class Review for Measurement Words) Class Charts

    • Class Discussion: Possessive Adjectives & Pronouns (Create Sentences) (Partners Boardwork)

    • Review Charts for Measurement Words

    • REVIEW: Google Doc with class created sentences: Possessive Adjectives/Possessive Pronouns/Subject & Object positions

    • Measurement Words for Noncount Nouns and Plural Count Nouns

    • Homework: Review Google Doc (Chart 6-6) Irregular Plural forms of Nouns

    • Study Guide Part E Identify and produce possessive adjectives within a sentence and create present progressive sentences/statement/question/negative

    • Opportunity to correct sentence errors from evaluation - measurement with count/noncount nouns

    • Practice identifying past progressive tense verbs and simple past tense verbs. Discuss when to use each tense.

    • Quiz identifying past progressive and simple past verbs.

  • Week 4
    • Study Guide Part E Identify simple past and past progressive verbs in affirmative and negative statements and questions.

    • Complete study guides/final check

    • 6 sentences: correctly use measurement words
