About this Course

This course provides students with an opportunity to develop listening and speaking skills, enhance structural accuracy, and foster an expansion of everyday English communication skills. Modules 1-3a through 1-3c of this program will help students to participate in listening and speaking activities, practice English pronunciation, and expand vocabulary. Students will also deliver presentation(s) and track new vocabulary learned it the course.

Learning modules

  • Week 1
    • Welcome to class; Introductions; partner "WH" questions; into larger group

    • Introduction of Partner, name, what he/she likes to do: • Respond to commonly asked questions with the goal of increasing clarity for listeners

    • "ED" pronunciation of regular past tense verbs "ID"; "T" or "D" sound (3 rules)/practice

    • Line up by birthday (month/day)

    • Ball Toss Using Present Progressive Tense Verbs correctly; followed by (role play-guess what partners are doing)

    • Intro to This/That; These/Those (video link attached)

  • Week 2
    • How to Pronounce -ed verb endings: American English Pronunciation (link attached)

    • Pronunciation of 'ed' regular past tense verbs; review pronunciation and add 2 more verbs to each column (link attached)

    • unvoiced and voiced "TH" sound: Thin (unvoiced)- Although(voiced)- Both(unvoiced)

    • House and Apartment Problems and Repairs (Link Attached)

    • Practice Ordering Breakfast/Speaking at Buffet Lunch about Favorite Painting and Experience at the Kimbell Art Museum

    • • Improve pronunciation of isolated English sounds *Review-ed endings and the practice TH-sound); FACT AND OPINION

  • Week 3
    • Inside/Outside Circle Communicating Interests and Possibilities for 30 Day Challenge

    • 30-Day Challenge Leaders make at least one call or text to your people before class 03/22.

    • 4-POINT JOURNAL FOR 30 Days Challenge, Examples incuded: class discussion, viewing 03/15

    • 2 Facts and 2 opinions about Dimasi's Restaurant (or your favorite restaurant in the U.S.): re: 03/09 Class trip.

    • 30-Day Challenge Accountability Partners -set up on What's App.

  • Week 4
    • Brainstorm Apt. Problems that need maintenance attention: Partners practice role play, "Calling the Manager, Apartment Problem"

    • PARTNERS: Create Role Play Reporting a Problem in the Apartment

    • Review vocabulary for apartment/household problems and begin 30-day challenge notes or journal

    • Review of SIE (1-3a) Course Objectives 3-2-1 Vocabulary

    • Update from group leaders re: 30-Day Challenge (help needed/scheduling for 2-3 following weeks)
