About this Course

This course focuses on basic English communication skills for intermediate English learners. Topics covered include note taking skills, presentations, and applications for asking and answering questions.   • week 2
    • L6/7 Students practiced responding to open-ended questions and oral summarizing.

    • L6/7 Students listened to a variety of videos, wrote 2-3 sentence summaries and shared on the board.

    • L6/7 Students practiced using the L7 Phrasal Verb list in impomptu dialogues.

    • Listening/Summarizing: Students listened to a Breakingnewsenglish audio, took notes, and summarized.

    • Quiz: Students answer a selected open-ended question in an impromptu speech.

  • week 3
    • Quiz: Combined skills listening for supporting details, summarizing, paraphrasing using COR Summarizing/ID Ideas

    • Phrasal Verb Practice: Paired students completed and discussed COR Phrasal Verbs A&B worksheets

    • Phrasal Verb Exam-COR Phrasal Verbs C

    • Listening for details: Students practiced COR ID Working at Home

    • Students paraphrased and summarized an audio text (breakingnewsenglish.com)

    • Students prepared their persuasive powerpoint presentations with Works Cited and citations.

    • Students discussed, prepared, and debated points of opposing views of starting a new business.

  • week 4
    • L6/7 Persuasive Presentations with powerpoints in-text citations and Works Cited, based on levels with rubric.

    • L6/7 Discussions and peer evaluations of the presentations based on the rubric and observations.

    • L6 prepared to summarize audio texts and L7 to plan and present an impromptu speech.
