About this Course

This course focuses on basic English skills for absolute beginning English learners. Topics covered include letters, sounds, simple questions, and money conversion.

0.LS.1 Participate in conversations about familiar topics (e.g. family, food, daily activities, transportation, housing, clothing,

jobs, health, the body, and the community).

0.LS.2 Use time and money in conversations.

0.LS.3 Give and get directions and greetings.

0.LS.4 Recite the alphabet.

0.LS.5 Give and get personal information (e.g. name, address, phone number).

Learning modules

  • Week 1
    • Students practiced responding to basic "wh" questions using BE verbs.

    • Students reviewed and practiced classroom vocabulary.

    • Students practiced saying the alphabet names and sounds and wrote capital/small letters.

    • Quiz: Students produce subject pronouns and the appropriate BE verb.

  • Week 2
    • Students practiced asking and answering information questions for personal information.

    • Students reviewed and practiced FD Vocabulary list.

    • Students wrote and reviewed # 0-10 and days of the week.

    • Quiz: Students wrote both number and word 0-20, days of week, and 3 sentences using a number.

    • Students learned basic parts of the body and practice Information and Y/N questions and answers.

    • Students gave a short presentation on personal information and details about themselves.

    • Students reviewed the body, health, and simple sentences.

    • Students reviewed for body parts and days of the week quiz Monday.

  • Week 3
    • Students practiced saying and writing different times and time phrases.

    • Students prepare a presentation about themselves, including personal vocabulary and phrases, times, action verbs, etc.

    • Students presented their personal information using a variety of verbs, times, and target vocabulary.

    • Class activity: Students practiced answering oral questions from classmates.

    • Students identified nouns and verbs in sentences and wrote simple sentences.

  • Week 4
    • Students complete and review the Study Guide and practice obectives.

    • Students review and practice L/S level objectives.

    • Students review for the Final Exam.

    • Final Exam
