About this Course

This course focuses on basic English skills for absolute beginning English learners. Topics covered include letters, sounds, simple questions, and money conversion.

• 0.G.1 Identify relationship between sounds and letters.

• 0.G.2 Produce alphabet and numbers. 

• 0.G.3 Identify relationships between verbal and written words.

• 0.G.4 Produce words and phrases to convey basic needs, social skills, time, numbers, and school vocabulary.

• 0.G.5 Respond to basic yes/no simple present questions.

• 0.G.6 Respond to simple questions, directions, and commands.

Learning modules

  • Week 1
    • Students completed a worksheet identifying and producing subject pronouns and BE verb agreement.

    • Students reviewed for subject pronoun and BE verb quiz.

    • Quiz: Students produce upper and lower case alphabet letters.

    • Students practiced identifying numbers 1-10, days of the week, and responded to simple questions..

  • Week 2
    • Students wrote sentences about themselves using "I am" + nouns or adjectives.

    • Quiz: Students identified letter sounds and letters using various methods.

    • Students produced senteces using"Have" or "Be" with Health vocabulary.

    • Students wrote numbers 0-20 and words 0-10.

    • Students practiced writing days of week and numbers.

    • Students practiced identifying and saying action verbs in a chart.

    • Students identified daily activitiy verbs and wrote sentences about their routines.

  • Week 3
    • Students completed a worksheet identifying numbers 1-100, producing forms of positive/negative BE verbs, and changing subjects to pronouns.

    • Students practiced using simple present tense in sentences and questions.

    • Students wrote dictated FD Word Bank vocabulary.

    • Students practiced answering simple present questions in writing.

    • Students used "I want + food nouns plus additional topics (i.e. I want a new car. I want a dog.)

    • Quiz: Students looked at an action picture and wrote a simple sentence using the correct subject prounoun and form of the simple present verb.

    • Students answered simple information/Yes-No questions in writing.

  • Week 4
    • Students practiced identifying letter sounds and answering types of questions in writing.

    • Students practiced answering various kinds of questions in writing.

    • Students reviewed the Study Guide and grammar worksheets.

    • Final Exam
