About this Course

This course provides students with an opportunity to develop listening and speaking skills, enhance structural accuracy, and foster an expansion of everyday English communication skills. Modules 4-6a through 4-6c of this program will help students to interact with audio and/or video clip content in various ways and recognize and practice English collocations. Students will also track new vocabulary from the course and deliver presentations.

    • Introduction to Collocations

    • Collocations cont. Students read sentences and determine the meaning

    • Collocations, 5 sentences and matching

    • Homework, review the 20 sentences using collocations, for quiz

  • WEEK 2
    • Collocations with have, do, and make quiz

    • Paraphrase Information practice: Ted Talk Ric Elias: 3 things I learned while my plane crashed

    • Use Paraphrase information and complete a paragraph using the paraphrased sentences from classwork. Link Attached

    • Review of Verb Tenses/Focus for Role Play

  • WEEK 3
    • Expressing opinions, likes, and dislikes (Conversation: Getting acquainted (Focus: Collocations)

    • Change each question to a statement beginning with "Tell me..."

    • Match the words and expressions with words or expressions with similar meanings - Vocab.

    • Partner Pair Work: Exercise .Write a conversation between 2 people: what the like and what they like to do.

    • Conversation Practice: Talking About Roommates

    • Review Paraphrase/Questions re: Rick Elias clip

  • WEEK 4
    • PRESENTATION: partner role-play: phrases related positive/negative responses for things loved/liked/preferences producing Questions/Answers

    • Paraphrase in complete sentences questions re: Rick Elias video. Boardwork/peer edits to follow.

    • Review talking about future tense and Speak/Tell/Talk and phrasal verbs/ terms related to role-play

    • Homework: Review questions and sentences (positive/negative responses) for likes/dislikes preferences
