About this Course

L8-L9: This course provides students with an opportunity to develop listening and speaking skills, enhance structural accuracy, and foster an expansion of everyday English communication skills. Modules 7-9a through 7-9c of this program will help students to interact with audio and/or video clip content in various ways and recognize and practice English idioms. Students will also track new vocabulary from the course and deliver presentations.

Learning modules

  • Week 1
    • Classwork 1/4 - Listen to a news clip about New Year's Resolutions - Talk about vague resolutions and why we don't achieve that goal for the year

    • Homework 1/4 - Write 2 New Years Resolutions vaguely and than give them more details

    • Class Discussion 1/5 - Read the Article - Pull 5 new vocabulary words out to discuss with the group and share their responses to the questions - Continue to next week

    • Class Discussion - 1/9 - Read the article - Have your answers ready to discuss - (1) Do you think this article will help with you setting better goals in the future? Why or why not? (2) Which step(s) do you think will help you the most when completing you

  • Week 2
    • Classwork 1/10 - Video: Sustainability - Pull vocabulary from the video and talk about the 3 pillars of sustainability

    • Classwork 1/11 - Review the 3 pillars of sustainability and discuss some of the vocabulary - Read "What is a co-op?"

    • Homework 1/11 - Answer questions 3 and 4 about the co-op article.

    • Class Discussion 1/17 - Students will listen to a video and speak for 3-4 minutes about the video, using vocabulary we've discussed

  • Week 3
    • Classwork 1/17 - Students will continue to review vocabulary

    • Homework 1/18 - Watch the Youtube video about a zero waste household and how they use sustainable practices

    • Class Discussion 1/18 - Students will discuss the vocabulary term "environmentally friendly" (eco-friendly) - list and describe things that are eco-friendly - what do we do in our everyday lives that help the planet

  • Week 4
    • Classwork 1/23 - Visiting the Co-op - Explore the Co-op to walk through the different products they have in the store

    • Homework 1/24 - Finish writing a summary with the questions you used at the Co-op - Students will bring in this paper on Wednesday - They can use it to help with the class discussion

    • Classwork 1/24 - Class discussion about the co-op - Time to work on summary paper

    • Class Discussion and Paper 1/25 - Co-ops and Sustainability
